AUTOMATIC DOORS

Although automatic doors have been around since the 1950’s, it wasn’t until the 1990’s that they became a global phenomenon.  And now, in the 2020’s we’re seeing an ever-increasing number and frequency of automatic doors being used; especially in heavy traffic commercial applications.  However, an automatic door can be an excellent choice for nearly any business establishment as it provides many benefits.

Some of the benefits of an automatic door include:

• increased client perception of convenience and service
• increased accessibility (for all people but especially those pushing strollers, the elderly and those who have a mobility disability; ADA compliance is also a benefit)
• increased safety when entering and exiting as establishment
• increased hygiene (no handles or doors need to be touched to enter/exit)
• increased energy efficiency (a properly maintained automatic door will shut completely and securely after each use; no doors to be left open again).

There are some applications in which an automatic door is nearly deemed a necessity.  These applications include:

• Hospitals and Health Care Centers
• Airports
• Hotels and/or Motels
• Shopping Mall Main Entrances
• Retail Store Establishments
• And Government Buildings

However, more office buildings and other establishments are realizing the benefits of installing an at least one automatic door for their main entrance.

An automatic door, as with any other opening, does require a certain minimum level of care and maintenance.

At All Locks And Doors, we have AAADM certified technicians who can conduct the annual required AAADM certification on your automatic door.  It’s definitely worth it to keep your automatic door in good, proper working condition as it ensure the safety and longevity of this special opening.  While an automatic door is a huge draw in terms of safety, convenience, and ease of use from client’s perspectives, if not properly maintained, it can become a hazard.  So it’s extremely important to get all your automatic openings inspected on an annual basis.
